Carter Planning was represented at the 2013 Planning Convention “Planning for Growth” in London which was addressed by Eric Pickles MP, the Secretary of State for Communities and the Environment. Mr Pickles stated that he did not want planning to be paralysed or “quangoed” as he claimed it had been under the last Government.
He stressed that the system should have local people at its heart and be a locally led matter. He claimed it will be possible in future to balance conservation against the needed progress and economic growth. He pledged to weed out poor designs and protect the Green Belts and AoNBs, whilst freeing up householder extensions and free schools from planning control. In future we are likely to see the transformation of out of date shops and bringing boarded up buildings forward as new homes through further initiatives.
